The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed by President Barak Obama in 2015, replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 signed by President George W. Bush in 2002. ESSA is the reauthorized and amended civil rights law of 1965; the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The purpose of ESSA is to ensure that every student has access to a high-quality education.
