Digital Divide
- 92 percent of parents say they have established rules for their child’s Internet activity **
- 34 percent of children say their parents have not established rules for Internet activity *
- 40 percent of kids do not discuss Internet safety with their parents *
- 54 percent of parents say feel their ability to monitor and shelter their children from inappropriate
material is limited **
- 37 percent of kids say their parents would disapprove if they knew what they did, where they went,
or with whom they chatted on the Internet *
- 90 percent of parents say they know “some” or “a lot” about where their children go or what their
children do on the Internet **

Kids on the Internet
- 80 percent of kids spend at least 1 hour per week on the Internet
- 11 percent of kids spend more than 1 ˝ hours per day on the Internet
- 55 percent of kids have given their personal information (name, sex, age, etc.) over the Internet
- 52 percent of kids prefer to be alone when online
- 18 percent of kids feel safer on the Internet than they do in the physical world
- 10 percent of kids feel it is okay to post their picture on the Internet
- 10 percent of kids have met someone face-to-face that they previously met online

Cyber Bullying
- 42 percent of kids have been bullied while online
- 35 percent of kids have been threatened online
- 21 percent of kids have received mean or threatening e-mail or other messages
- 58 percent of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online
- 53 percent of kids admit having said something mean or hurtful to another person online
- 58 percent of kids have not told their parents or an adult about something mean or hurtful
that happened to them online

After the i-SAFE Program
- 54 percent of students have made an effort to discuss Internet safety with their parents
- 45 percent of students have discussed Internet safety with their friends
- 76 percent of students are more careful about where they go and what they do online
- 80 percent of students are more careful about the personal information they share online
- 79 percent of students are less likely to meet someone new from the Internet in person
